If you come across some website ask you to use Ctrl L and Ctrl K, that’s wrong! well not really wrong but not updated. The latest version of VLC today July 2013, to speed up the audio or slow down the audio to catch up with the video you need to select the Audio Effect menu of synchronization, for later version, it’s probably not under the right click menu, but rather in actual menu itself, as long as you can find the synchronization and go to the audio option to increase or decrease the audio speed to catch up with the video.
