I took advantage of dreamhost special promotion, they offered $9 hosting and free domain for one year, I took advantage of it, and it will expire in a couple weeks, so to save money to I moved to my home hosting service using fiber optic internet from verizon fios. There’s a new fios service coming call fios quantum something, probably not ready for that yet :). Anyhow, the transition was smooth, first move the domain out of dreamhost to godaddy, then set godaddy DNS controller, then move database and files to home hosting, add new site httpd to home hosting, then wait for it to propogate, although it said it could take up to 48hours or more or so, but most of time it’s like within hours, but probably not fully propogated. I would recommend dreamhost, they’re pretty good, I don’t recall down time for past year, but there are time my mysql wasn’t available temporary or my site wasn’t available temporary intermittent kind of thing, other than that, it’s pretty good. Yes I would recommend dreamhost for small budget website that don’t have a lot of traffic, and simple maintenance.
